Baby Snakes & The Electric Co. Share Live Studio Version of 'Dark Horse' and Announce Debut Album 'Ouroboros'

Baby Snakes & The Electric Co., the project led by Dallas producer and Modern Electric Sound Recorders founder Jeff Saenz, have shared a live studio performance video for their debut single "Dark Horse." The video was filmed at Modern Electric Sound Recorders in Dallas, the same studio where the song was written and tracked.

"Recorded and filmed in the same room 'Dark Horse' was born, it's a snapshot, a glimpse into what this band actually is," Saenz said. "As a band, we'd only played three shows together at that point, and only one of those with the full lineup. When we recorded these songs, we tracked them mostly live, and I wanted to show the world that energy and the connection we have created. Who knows what this could be like once we're 100+ shows deep."

"Dark Horse" appears on the band's debut album Ouroboros, a 12-track record due October 23 via Spaceflight Records. According to the release, Saenz wrote one song per month over the course of a year, with each track corresponding to a calendar month. The album is available for pre-order now.

The single release lands alongside the band's annual High Voltage, Good Vibes charity concert, held July 24 in Dallas with Saenz's longtime collaborators The Texas Gentlemen. The show marked the anniversary of June 1, 2021, when Saenz was struck by approximately 8,000 volts of electricity in his own yard, an accident that led to the amputation of both hands. He has since continued writing, recording, and performing.

Over three years of the annual benefit, Saenz has raised and donated close to $30,000 to Camp I-Thonka-Chi, a Parkland Foundation-supported summer camp for children who are burn survivors in Dallas. This year's proceeds are expected to total $10,000, and the fundraiser is still accepting donations.

"I thought about what would've mattered to me and who I would've wanted to help when I was at PARKLAND Hospital for those 10 weeks in the summer of 2021," Saenz said. "I quickly thought about the children I could hear through the halls of the Burn ICU I was in. It was still COVID times, which made visiting hours very restrictive, and I knew that most, if not all, of these kids were scared and alone through long nights filled with discomfort and uncertainty."

For independent artists, Saenz's story is a concrete example of building a creative identity around your own terms. He wrote "Dark Horse" as a melody hummed into his phone from the shower before the session that day, and recorded it in two days. The whole album followed that same single-day writing, single-day recording structure.
