2019
The beginning
September 25 · The first event
Foxhole Hollywood, 6520 Hollywood Blvd, around 100 people and mostly free tickets. The venue was owned by friends of the brand, including actor Billy Magnussen. Dabid, a founding member who also designed the flyers, and Drea Faux Real held down the decks, and Rokeaux sourced nearly the whole lineup because nobody wanted to perform for an unproven night.
November 6 · Event two makes history
Flyana Boss performed for the first time ever as a duo on the second Something Dope stage. Nobody in the room knew what that moment would become.
December 14 · Momentum
The December show pulled more than 130 RSVPs and rolled its after party into Madame Siam.
2020
For The Ladies is born, then the pivot
January 18 · First Something Dope For The Ladies
Hosted by Tatyana with Drea Faux Real on the decks and Flyana Boss performing, more than 150 people came out for a night dedicated to women in the creative community. The recap said it plainly: it was a movie.
June 18 · The first sold out show
The comeback party sold out its guest list in two days, the first sellout in Something Dope history.
Summer · The pandemic pivot
When rooms closed, the brand kept building: the Dope People blog launched in June and the filmed rap series Something Dope: The Cyphers followed in July.
2021
The return
August 6 · Flyana headlines the comeback
Live events restarted in July, and by August Flyana Boss and friends headlined a comeback show where artists killed it and vendors made money.
September · Residencies and new formats
Ladies night became an every Thursday residency, and September 23 brought the first Something Alternative night. For a stretch the only bookable venue was Black Star Burger on Fairfax, and most guests never realized the venue was a burger restaurant.
2022
Scale year
March 10 · Two rooms at once
Los Globos ran For The Ladies upstairs and the debut of Something Alternative For The People downstairs, both rooms holding 350 plus.
August 27 · 10,000 followers
The caption told the story: 2019 events averaged 125 people, and now more than that stand in line before doors open.
October 25 · The Peppermint Club era begins
The first Peppermint Club open mic sold out, and the first in line tradition was born. Artists would eventually show up at 3:15 in the morning to be first.
2023
Grammy Series, 400 person nights, OKC
February 4 · The first Grammy Series
Four events in one week capped by the pre Grammy party at The Avalon with Crescendo Music. 301 Icon won the night and earned a Sirius XM spin from DJ Carisma.
July 9 · 400 plus for the Ladies
The For The Ladies art battle night drew more than 400 people in the SAB Gallery era.
November 30 · Oklahoma City
The first OKC event with The OAKA at Castle Row Studios sold out in a week, opening the second home Something Dope still returns to.
2024
World tour year
March 15 to 17 · Rolling Loud
Something Dope hosted Rolling Loud's first ever open mic stage, all three days of the Los Angeles festival, in front of a 70,000 person crowd. The same month, the brand produced Reason Studios' 30th anniversary at The Village Studios.
June 14 · Euro Stop
The tour crossed the Atlantic: London at Omeara on June 11, then Palermo, Italy on June 14, where 1,240 people filled Averna Spazio Open.
September 29 · Five years
The anniversary at Create Music Studios counted 250 events, more than 40,000 tickets, and a world tour through London, Toronto, Italy, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, and Rolling Loud. Malik Yusef pulled up. August also launched Something Groovy For The People at Chance Vintage, the same vintage store the crew shouted out in 2019.
2025
Grants and round twos
January 30 · The grant edition
Grammy week King of the Aux carried more than $5,000 pledged by Unfound Music, and three winners took home grants: Yahusha Kalev, Josh Moreland, and Diwan Smith.
March · Rolling Loud round two
A Los Globos open mic doubled as the qualifier, and winner Datboy Kalifa performed inside the festival. Rolling Loud co founder Tariq Cherif came through.
October 19 · Six years
The six year anniversary Pass The Aux at Create Music Studios marked nearly 300 events hosted.
2026
The residency era
January · Grammys in the family
The first Grammy nominations connected to the family arrived: Nfnty, and Abstrakt Al for Durand Bernarr's Bloom, recorded at Create Music Studios. By June, Abstrakt Al was unboxing his Grammy at Create.
April · OKC crowns and 12:30 AM lines
The first OKC King of the Aux ran at Ivy Studios with The OAKA, crowning Chloee Hart from a 32 artist bracket. Back in LA, the Peppermint Club return sold out with artists lining up from 12:30 in the morning.
May 1 · The residency
The open mic became a monthly residency at The Peppermint Club. The line tradition lives on.
