Blue Note London Opens in September with Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper

Blue Note is taking London. The legendary club brand, which already operates venues in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, and beyond, will open Blue Note London on September 23 in Covent Garden. That date is no accident. It lands on what would have been John Coltrane's 100th birthday.

The 250-capacity room is intimate by design, built for the kind of close-range experience that made the Blue Note name in the first place. Shows run twice nightly at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., with the venue staying open until 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Think residencies, not one-offs.

Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, and the Full Inaugural Season

Robert Glasper headlines the opening weekend on September 23 and 24, then returns for a seven-date run from November 13 through 27. He has also been named creative ambassador for the venue, meaning he will have a hand in shaping its artistic direction going forward. For a room positioning itself at the intersection of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop, Glasper is the right person for that role.

Erykah Badu is also confirmed for the inaugural season, joining a lineup that includes Jamie Cullum, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, Yussef Dayes, Afrobeat collective KOKOROKO, and east London rapper and singer Hak Baker. More acts are still to be announced.

Glasper put it plainly in a statement: "Starting this new club is about creating a space where jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and everything in between can meet, evolve, and surprise people."

Co-owner Tsion Bensusan described the London opening as one of the most significant milestones in Blue Note Entertainment Group's history. For a company that has been placing these rooms in global cultural capitals for decades, that is not a small thing to say.
