Bo Staloch Drops New Single "Masks" on Capitol Records

Bo Staloch released his new single "Masks" on July 31 via Capitol Records. The track follows "From a Different Age," which came out in early July.

Both singles were produced by Brad Cook, whose credits include Mavis Staples and Waxahatchee. The session also brought in Colin Croom (Twin Peaks), Nathan Stocker (Hippo Campus), Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver), Libby Rodenbough (Mipso), and Jon Low. The song moves through baroque pop, alt-folk, and indie rock, building from sparse keys and guitar toward a full-band finish. Staloch's lyrics put the scene plainly: "Darling what a mess we've made, wipe those tears from your face / This house is going up in flames, wearing our masks on a burning stage."

After performing "From a Different Age" at Rolling Stone's Stateside Fourth of July festival in Kingston, New York, Rolling Stone described the single as showing "achingly pretty folk-rock tunes that combine a delicate croon, subtly atmospheric kick, and gut-punch choruses, sort of like a more anthemic Bon Iver."

Staloch, 21, recently finished an acoustic EU/UK tour alongside fellow Texas artist Abby Powledge. The two marked the run by releasing a live version of "Falling Slowly" recorded in London, the Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová duet from the 2007 film Once.

In 2025, Staloch toured with John Vincent III, Houndmouth, and Ashe, opened for Zach Bryan at London's Hyde Park, made his Lollapalooza debut, and completed a North American headline run. According to the release, that run sold out in major cities. His EP The Garden drew coverage from Atwood Magazine, Ones to Watch, and EUPHORIA. Subsequent singles included "Angelina" (produced with Elie Rizk), "Born To" (with Jackson Shanks and X Ambassadors' Sam Nelson Harris), and "Eastside" (produced with Andrew Wells).

Staloch's only confirmed date right now is Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 2 in Austin, TX.

For independent artists paying attention: Staloch's collaborative approach, pulling in producers and players with strong genre-specific track records rather than chasing one sound, is a model worth studying. The network he's built track by track has landed him festival slots and opening slots that most artists spend years working toward.
