Caitlin Starr Announces Sophomore EP 'Speed Saves,' Drops New Single and Video 'Pass Me By'

Caitlin Starr has announced her second EP, Speed Saves, out October 9 via G-Foil Records. Alongside the announcement, the Brooklyn-based singer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist released a new single, "Pass Me By," and an accompanying music video.

In Starr's own words, the single is "a satirical, high-energy take on the feeling that life is barreling past you, scrolling through moments while everything speeds on without you. Inspired by moments of paralysis and FOMO, the lyrics pair darkly humorous, irreverent lines with anthemic hooks. Sonically it's melodic and upbeat with heavy riffs and a pop-rock punch: driving drums, crunchy guitars, and a singable chorus that turns feeling left behind into a confident banger."

The video follows Starr on a rollerblade ride through the streets of Manhattan, contrasting near-empty city blocks with constant movement.

The five-track EP was written by Starr and produced by Chris Cubeta. The band on the sessions includes Carmen Castillo on bass, Zack Jones on drums, and Lucy Coykendall on drums for the previously released single "Will U b My Girlfriend." Meredith Okomoto served as assistant engineer. Starr is a classically trained jazz pianist who played additional instruments on the project.

The title Speed Saves riffs on the phrases "Jesus saves" and "speed kills," framing speed as both a coping mechanism and a source of damage. Starr has described the EP as a reflection on long hours, multiple jobs, constant motion, and the crashes that follow.

"Melodic punk is similar to grunge pop," Starr says. "Kurt Cobain was such a great pop writer, even though Nirvana was grunge and alternative. I see it as blending the raw power and angst of hardcore music with infectious pop melodies that make you wanna listen over and over. I've always been drawn to melodies and am a songwriter at heart, but it wasn't until I started playing heavier music live that I felt I could fully express how I was feeling."

Starr made her solo debut in 2025 with the EP Hold On Tight. Before that, she built her footing in the NYC scene playing bass for Suzy Clue, Shred Flintstone, Skorts, and Truman Flyer.

For independent artists balancing multiple projects and side gigs while developing a solo identity, Starr's path here is worth paying attention to. She spent years in the scene as a collaborator and sideperson before stepping forward on her own terms, and she is doing it with a full production team while keeping the songwriting personal.
