Caitlin Starr Announces Sophomore EP 'Speed Saves,' Out October 9 on G-Foil Records

NYC-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Caitlin Starr has announced her sophomore EP Speed Saves, due October 9 via G-Foil Records. Alongside the announcement, she released a new single, "Pass Me By," and an accompanying music video.

The five-track EP was produced by Chris Cubeta and features Carmen Castillo on bass, Zack Jones on drums, and Lucy Coykendall on drums for the previously released track "Will U b My Girlfriend." Meredith Okomoto served as assistant engineer. Starr, a classically trained jazz pianist and multi-instrumentalist, wrote the songs and brought them into collaborative sessions with the band and production team.

The title Speed Saves draws from the phrases "Jesus saves" and "speed kills," reframing speed as a stand-in for long hours, constant motion, and chasing validation. Across the five songs, Starr traces both the temporary relief that pace can offer and the crashes that follow, pairing piano-rooted songwriting with punk instrumentation.

"Pass Me By" is described by Starr as "a satirical, high-energy take on the feeling that life is barreling past you, scrolling through moments while everything speeds on without you." She adds: "Inspired by moments of paralysis and FOMO, the lyrics pair darkly humorous, irreverent lines with anthemic hooks. Sonically it's melodic and upbeat with heavy riffs and a pop-rock punch: driving drums, crunchy guitars, and a singable chorus that turns feeling left behind into a confident banger."

The video, directed from a street-level perspective, follows Starr on a rollerblading ride through New York City at night, contrasting near-empty streets with constant movement.

Last month, Starr shared "Will U b My Girlfriend," a confessional single about an intense romantic crush, also accompanied by a video.

Starr spent several years supporting other NYC punk and metal bands, including stints as bassist for Suzy Clue, Shred Flintstone, Skorts, and Truman Flyer, before releasing her solo debut EP Hold On Tight in 2025. On what draws her to melodic punk as a format, she says: "I've always been drawn to melodies and am a songwriter at heart, but it wasn't until I started playing heavier music live that I felt I could fully express how I was feeling."

For independent artists building a solo project while still showing up for other people's bands, Starr's path is worth paying attention to. Years of live work across the city translated directly into the network and craft behind this release.
