CMH Records released Pickin' On Post Malone on July 31, 2026, a digital compilation featuring bluegrass and Americana artists covering Post Malone songs. The project is the newest installment in the label's Pickin' On Series, which began in 1993 and has grown to more than 300 albums across its run.
The artists on the record are Water Tower, Big Richard, JD Casper, The Barefoot Movement, Holler Choir, and Iron Horse. Featured guests MyVerse and Sean Jacobs, who according to the release has previously opened for Post Malone, each appear on one track.
Three singles led up to the release. Water Tower, a Los Angeles band working in bluegrass, old-time, and punk rock, covered "Sunflower" using banjo, fiddle, and mandolin and released a companion music video. The Voice alum JD Casper took on "Chemical" with a fiddle-driven arrangement. Female four-piece Big Richard covered "Lemon Tree," a group the release describes as playing "bluegrass with a side of lady rage."
The full 12-track listing includes Post Malone cuts spanning his career: "White Iverson," "Circles," "Better Now," "rockstar," "Congratulations," "Wrapped Around Your Finger," "Guy For That," and "I Had Some Help," alongside the three singles. "Sunflower" appears twice, with separate versions from Water Tower and JD Casper.
Writer Alan Cackett reviewed the album ahead of release, writing: "These songs are vibrant and move as quickly as your heart does when you're doing something you love, but the most compelling quality of the record is how fun it sounds. Highly recommended."
CMH Records, founded in 1975 and now run by David Haerle, is based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. The Pickin' On Series has previously covered artists including Nirvana, Metallica, The Doors, Pearl Jam, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. According to the release, past entries Pickin' On Modest Mouse and Fade to Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Metallica both appeared on Billboard's Top Bluegrass Albums chart.
For independent artists, the project is a useful reminder that reimagining someone else's catalog in your own genre can open doors to press, playlisting, and audiences that a straight original release might not reach. CMH has built an entire arm of its business around exactly that idea.
Pickin' On Post Malone is available now on all streaming platforms.
