The Ghanaian-Australian artist kicks off six dates behind his third album 'Redstar Wu and the Worldwide Scourge'

Genesis Owusu launched his sold-out U.S. headline tour on November 5, 2026, in Los Angeles, performing in support of his third album, Redstar Wu and the Worldwide Scourge. The six-city run is entirely sold out before the first night ends, and every date lands at an independent room, which tells you something about where his audience lives.
The album is out now on all major streaming platforms. Singles include "Stampede," "Pirate Radio," "Death Cult Zombie," and "Life Keeps Going." The press release does not name a producer or label for this release, so check the album credits directly for that information.
What Is 'Redstar Wu and the Worldwide Scourge' About
Owusu has described the record as coming from a sense of necessity. The album moves through hip-hop, indie rock, electro, and synth funk, and its lyrics take direct aim at political, social, and economic conditions right now. Pitchfork wrote that he aimed "to capture a fraught global moment of cross-cultural wreckage and imperialist neglect." The New York Times pulled this line from the record: "Giving my reply with a bat / Find an oligarch, get him taxed."
Reviews have been strong across the board. The Guardian Australia gave it five stars. DIY Mag gave it 4.5 stars. NME gave it four stars. NPR Music, Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, and The New York Times all covered it. Genius called it his best album to date. Those are not quotes from the publicist; they are attributed to specific outlets.
"Stampede" is currently featured in Apple's global iPhone 18 campaign. The same track also appeared on Netflix's Heartbreak High. Those two placements together represent the kind of sync exposure that most independent artists spend years chasing.
Standalone single "Human Again" also dropped this summer, outside the album, and exists in the same emotional space as Redstar Wu. Its video was filmed on European streets and leans into what the release calls a baroque fever dream aesthetic.

Who Is Genesis Owusu
Owusu is a Ghanaian-Australian artist based in Australia. His 2021 debut, Smiling With No Teeth, established him quickly. Rolling Stone Australia ranked it number one on their list of the 100 best Australian albums of the 2020s so far, according to the press release. That album also got him onto The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for his U.S. late-night debut.
In 2023, he released Struggler, a concept album that received coverage from NPR, Billboard, Paste, and Alternative Press. Redstar Wu and the Worldwide Scourge is his third album and follows that trajectory forward.
He has performed at Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza, and Splendour in the Grass. He has toured in support of Paramore, Tame Impala, and IDLES. He also played a sold-out night at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. That range, from punk-adjacent openers to orchestral collaborations, reflects how wide his sound actually goes.
Leading up to this tour, he received eight nominations at Australia's 2026 ARIA Awards, including album of the year, best solo artist, and best independent release. The press release notes he tied Tame Impala for the most nominations this year, though we cannot independently verify that figure from this release alone.
What Independent Artists Should Take From This Campaign
Owusu built this moment across three albums, each one expanding the sonic range rather than chasing a formula. The sync placements on iPhone and Netflix did not come first; they came after years of consistent, genre-resistant output. The sold-out tour at independent venues means his audience is real and built on the music, not on algorithmic reach.
The two-night Brooklyn run also shows the value of letting demand reveal itself before you over-book. One night sells out, you add a second. That is cleaner than booking a bigger room and hoping to fill it.
