Atlantic Records and Rockstar Games have announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track project dropping November 19, the same day the game hits consoles. Six songs are already streaming, and the lineup they chose to open with is not playing around.
The early rollout includes Travis Scott on a track called "RHYNO" produced by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Yung Lean featuring Future and Metro Boomin on "That's It," and PinkPantheress, Fred again.., and Etienne de Crecy linking up for "Sexy Magic." Morgan Wallen contributes "The Last Thing You Need," Rauw Alejandro brings "Macacoa 2000," and Keith Richards rounds out the first wave with "Bright Lights, Big City." Country, rap, electronic, and Latin all in the first six. That's intentional.
Why the GTA VI Album Lineup Actually Matters
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has a decades-long history of using its in-game radio stations to introduce subcultures and sounds to audiences who might never encounter them otherwise. For a lot of people, GTA was their first real exposure to specific rap eras, funk, reggae, and electronic music. The series doesn't just license existing hits. It builds cultural context around them.
This album is designed to extend that tradition outside the game itself. The 34 tracks are meant to capture the energy of Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida where GTA VI is set, but the fact that they're releasing as a standalone album, on vinyl, on CD, and across streaming platforms means Rockstar and Atlantic are treating this as a genuine music release, not just a marketing asset tied to a game drop.
The collab between a legacy rock imprint like Atlantic and a game studio signals something the industry has been circling for years: video games are now legitimate music release vehicles at the same level as film and TV. When Travis Scott and Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel are committing original material to a soundtrack, that's not a promotional favor. That's a placement.
What the Physical Release Strategy Tells You
The physical rollout is worth paying attention to if you're an independent artist or label thinking about how physical music moves in 2025. Atlantic is releasing three exclusive formats: a limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl, a splatter vinyl, and a CD jewel case, each with original artwork designed to echo the GTA VI visual identity. Beyond that, there are retail exclusives at Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Target, Urban Outfitters, and independent record stores, each with a unique vinyl pressing design and accompanying poster.
That's not one release. That's a collectible strategy layered across every major retail channel simultaneously. It rewards completists, drives foot traffic to physical stores, and gives each retailer a reason to merchandise the product aggressively. For indie labels and artists watching how to architect a vinyl campaign, this is a masterclass in segmentation without fragmentation. The album is still one album. The experience of owning it is different depending on where you buy it.
The complete 34-track album and the full suite of physical editions are available for pre-order now ahead of the November 19 release.
GTA VI: The Album will also launch alongside the game's in-game radio stations and score, which means the music exists in two spaces at once: as something you stream or own, and as something woven into the environment of one of the most anticipated game releases in years. That dual context is rare, and it's the kind of cultural positioning most artists spend careers trying to manufacture.
If you're an independent creator watching this rollout, the lesson isn't "get on the GTA soundtrack." The lesson is that the most durable music moments right now are the ones embedded in a larger world, whether that's a game, a visual art project, a brand campaign, or a live experience that gives the music a home beyond the stream. If you're building that kind of project and looking for a place to share it, [submit your work](/submit) and let us know what you're working on.
Check back November 19 for the full album. That's the date to watch.
