greek Drops EP 'DANCE BREAK' and 'Hold Me' Video

Michael Davie, recording as greek, has released his new EP DANCE BREAK, a five-song project, alongside a music video for the lead single "HOLD ME" as of August 24, 2026. The release follows his 2025 album CEDAR'S TAPE and marks the first time Davie has brought outside studio collaborators into his production process.

What Is on DANCE BREAK and Who Made It

The five tracks on DANCE BREAK are: "MAGIC," "HOLD ME," "PATIENCE," "NEW KINDA LOVE," and a fifth untitled track listed in the release. Davie self-produced the majority of the project, with additional production from Charley Damski, whose prior credits include Sharon Van Etten and X Ambassadors. Mixing and mastering was handled by Josh Block, known for his work with White Denim and Leon Bridges.

According to the release, this is the first time Davie has collaborated with outside studio professionals on new material. His previous three projects, including his 2022 debut EXTC and 2024's ACCELERATOR, were fully self-produced and self-engineered.

The EP grew out of the energy from a sold-out tour earlier in 2026 in support of CEDAR'S TAPE. Davie described his approach in a statement included with the release: "Every track on the project feels like it's highlighting a very particular specialty I admire in production and songwriting. This EP was a chance for me to push my boundaries within my production and melodies. While also challenging myself to have fun while making upbeat songs."

The focus track "HOLD ME" is a bass-forward song featuring Davie's falsetto over what he describes as a funk and soul-adjacent feel. The video was directed by Angel Orozco. On the song, Davie said: "I would love people to find themselves getting lost in this song on a long walk to think, maybe while exploring some place new. The tempo and the feel exude some sense of that to me."

Where greek Is Playing on the 2026 DANCE BREAK Tour

Davie launched his greek! live headline tour on August 25 in Charlotte, NC at Neighborhood Theatre. The run covers North America through late September, with a final date in London at Oslo Hackney on December 1. Paco supports on the early dates and Humble The Great joins on later stops.

greek's Background and Production Career

Davie grew up in Martinsville, Virginia and taught himself music production through YouTube, initially using a Kindle Fire. He built his sound out of influences ranging from the Beatles and Aretha Franklin through to Steve Lacy and Mac DeMarco, and began making beats in high school after watching friends work in FL Studio, recording results directly into iMovie.

Beyond his own releases, Davie has production credits for JID, Ty Dolla $ign, Alex Banin, Sofaygo, and Weston Estate. His 2022 debut EXTC accumulated over 20 million streams according to the release. His 2024 album ACCELERATOR received support from Zane Lowe and a public endorsement from Elton John, who called it "one hell of a good record" according to the same release material.
