Jalen Chords has released his new single "WYO (What You On)" via Cash Money Records as of October 30, 2026. The single follows "My Boo," his previous release that has been climbing radio charts and accumulating streams. "WYO" is available to stream now across platforms.

The Hampton, Virginia singer-songwriter brings a flirtatious, hip-hop-inflected R&B sound to the new record, leaning into a faster tempo and playful tone compared to the warmer, nostalgia-leaning feel of "My Boo." Where the previous single was built on the comfort of young love, "WYO" is designed for packed rooms and high-energy moments.

Where "My Boo" Stands Right Now

According to the press release, "My Boo" is currently sitting at No. 14 on the Urban Mainstream chart and No. 23 on the R&B chart, with the release reporting over 4 million global streams to date. Those numbers gave Jalen a measurable foundation to build from before dropping "WYO."

The momentum on "My Boo" makes the timing of "WYO" worth noting. Rather than waiting for the first record to peak and fall off, the campaign drops a second single with a different energy while the first is still moving. That is a deliberate sequencing decision that independent artists watching this rollout should keep in mind.

Jalen signed to Cash Money Records, the New Orleans-founded label run by brothers Bryan "Birdman" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams since 1991. Cash Money is distributed through Republic Records under Universal Music Group. The label's current roster includes Jacquees, Juvenile, and others, and it houses Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment imprint, home to Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Jalen Chords Before Cash Money: The Independent Run

Jalen's path to a major label deal started with a cover posted to Instagram in 2024. He followed that with his independent debut project, "The Playlist," released in 2025, which the release says pulled in hundreds of thousands of streams. A track called "Signs (Sportmode)" was among the standout cuts from that project.

The single that drew the most attention before Cash Money was "Good Denim," which according to the release surpassed 1.4 million Spotify streams. That traction appears to be what opened the door to the label deal. He also earned an early write-up from Ratings Game Music during that independent stretch.

Before music was the focus, Jalen grew up in Hampton, Virginia, ran track, played football and basketball, and got his start singing in church choir. His parents led praise and worship teams. He picked up piano in high school and also did musical theater. He later attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, which connects directly to some of his recent live appearances.

Jalen Chords Live and in the Press

On October 9, 2026, Jalen appeared on 11Alive's "ATL&Co" in Atlanta to talk about his background and upcoming performance. Two days later, on October 11, he performed at the SpelHouse x Cadillac Chronicles Homecoming experience, a show that put his music in front of Morehouse, Spelman, and the broader Atlanta community. No additional tour dates or announced shows appear in the release at this time.

For LA-area fans and industry, there are no confirmed West Coast dates as of this writing. Check the [events page](/events) for any updates as the "WYO" campaign develops.

What Independent Artists Can Take From This

Jalen Chords spent roughly a year building an independent streaming catalog before a label deal materialized. "Good Denim" hitting 1.4 million streams on Spotify without label support is what made him a viable signing, not the other way around. The lesson is direct: verifiable streaming numbers and a consistent release schedule are the portfolio a label actually looks at.

The two-single strategy here also shows a campaign built around contrast. "My Boo" establishes a feeling. "WYO" shows range. Rolling out records that complement rather than repeat each other keeps an audience engaged and gives radio programmers two different contexts to work with.
