Johnny Marr has announced The Age of Everything, his fifth solo album, set to arrive October 2 via BMG. The record comes with a first single, "Spin," which is out now alongside a music video.

Marr described the album's title as something that locked in early and never let go. "It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling," he said. "There's a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility." That framing, not doom and gloom but not exactly optimism either, tracks with where a lot of artists and creators are right now.

His last full project was Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, a pandemic-era double LP that showed he had no interest in coasting on legacy. The Age of Everything looks to push that forward across ten tracks.

What The Age of Everything Signals for Guitar-Driven Songwriting

Marr has spent his solo career proving that the craft of guitar-based songwriting still has room to evolve. The language around this album, technology, overwhelm, possibility, suggests he's not retreating into nostalgia. He's writing directly to the cultural moment, which is exactly what makes this worth paying attention to beyond the Smiths conversation.

For independent artists and producers watching how legacy figures navigate the current release landscape, Marr's setup here is worth studying. A focused single drop, a clear album date, a strong label partner in BMG, and live momentum from a headlining stadium run with Gorillaz. That is a clean, well-sequenced rollout.

The Age of Everything tracklist runs ten songs deep:

01 Spin 02 Beyond The Rain 03 It's Time 04 How Come 05 Ophelia 06 That Feeling 07 In And Out Of Love 08 Just Once More 09 Fire With Fire 10 All In A Life
