Leon III have shared "Brushstrokes," the latest single from their upcoming album Candy Cigarettes, set for release on September 18, 2026.

The track runs eight minutes and moves through rock and jam-band territory before landing in electronic dance sounds toward the end. It follows "Invisible Ink," the first single shared from the record.

Candy Cigarettes is Leon III's fourth studio album. The band recorded it over two years with their core touring lineup. Mark Nevers, who has also worked with Silver Jews and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, produced the record. The album blends psychedelic rock, pedal steel-driven country, and widescreen rock across its runtime.

The band is led by songwriter Andy Stepanian and guitarist Mason Brent. Their previous albums featured contributions from William Tyler and Matt Pence, known for his work with Centro-matic and Jason Isbell. According to the press release, the band has built their following primarily through live shows and word of mouth since their 2018 self-titled debut.

For independent artists, Leon III's trajectory is worth noting: four albums in, no major label, and a fanbase grown one show at a time. The band kept their recording lineup tight and consistent, and that stability shows up in the music. There is a lesson in that approach for any artist trying to build something that lasts.

Candy Cigarettes arrives September 18.
