Luis Fonsi Releases New Bachata Single and Video "Me Despido"

Luis Fonsi released "Me Despido," a new single and official music video, on August 13, 2026. The track is available now on all major streaming platforms.

The song is built around a bachata rhythm and follows a couple who, despite their love for each other, accept that circumstances are keeping them apart. Rather than a clean goodbye, they give themselves one last moment together. Fonsi co-wrote the track with Andrés Torres and Mauricio Rengifo, who also produced it.

"It's a song with a lot of story behind it… it's almost like a novel because it has drama, sensuality, and it invites you to dance. When I write songs, I like to step outside of my own reality and create characters that I know many people can relate to. That's the fun part of making music," Fonsi said.

The bachata genre has shown up in Fonsi's catalog before. He pointed to "Llegaste Tú" with Juan Luis Guerra, "Bésame" with Myke Towers, and "La Romana" from his album El Viaje as earlier examples.

"What I love most about bachata is that it's a genre that sounds like the Caribbean, that gets us dancing as a couple, but also gives us the opportunity to bring romance into the way we write and interpret a story. I've recorded several bachatas throughout my career... and now 'Me Despido,' a song I'm very excited about," Fonsi added.

"Me Despido" follows his previous single "Cambiaré," which the release states reached No. 1 on radio in multiple countries. Both tracks are described as previews of a forthcoming studio album. No album title or release date has been announced.

The music video was directed by Carlos Pérez, Creative Director of Elastic People, and is out now alongside the single.

For independent artists, the Torres and Rengifo co-write credit is worth noting. The duo has built a long track record across Latin pop and urban music, and their involvement here is a reminder of how much the right production partnership can shape the direction of a project.
