OMB Peezy releases "What She Wants," a new single that samples TLC's 1999 hit "No Scrubs" and features South Carolina rapper Trap Dickey, out October 2, 2026. The track arrives with an accompanying music video and serves as the second preview of Peezy's forthcoming album Save Yourself, set to drop October 16.
The single is available to stream now on Spotify and across major platforms. The video, shot poolside with both artists, is live on YouTube.
What "What She Wants" Is Actually About
TLC's "No Scrubs" called out men with no ambition or drive. Peezy flips that lens back on himself. On "What She Wants," he lays out his own standard: a partner who does not support your growth is just as much of a dead end as being broke and going nowhere. The press release frames it as a track about wanting someone who champions your come-up, not just someone who rides after you have already made it.
Trap Dickey, a rapper out of South Carolina, appears on the track with a guest verse. Dickey has been building a following in the Southeast regional rap circuit. His inclusion here continues a pattern Peezy has shown throughout his career of pulling collaborators from outside the California bubble, reflecting the South and West blend that critics have noted in his sound.
The production carries the "No Scrubs" interpolation in a way that connects the late-90s R&B source material to current West Coast rap. No producer credit was included in the press release.
Who Is OMB Peezy and What Comes Next
OMB Peezy is a rapper from Mobile, Alabama who built his following out of the Bay Area rap scene. His style draws from both Southern rap traditions and California street rap, a combination that outlets including The New York Times, Pitchfork, The FADER, and Pigeons and Planes have pointed to as what sets him apart. The New York Times described him as "tough but melodic, with a youthfully urgent voice and production that's indebted to Louisiana and California." Pitchfork called him "a true original."
He is repped by Audible Treats for press. His catalog includes years of project releases that helped establish him as a consistent voice in independent West Coast rap before he grew his audience nationally.
"What She Wants" is the second single from Save Yourself, the album arriving October 16. The first single has not been named in this press release. No tracklist, features, or label details for Save Yourself were included in the release at this time. Once that information drops, we will update this post.
No tour dates or live events were announced alongside this release. If that changes, check the [events calendar at Something Dope For The People](/events) for updates as they come in.
What Independent Artists Can Learn From This Campaign
The rollout here is straightforward and worth studying. Peezy dropped a single two weeks before the album, not the night before. That gap gives press and playlists time to pick up the record before the full project arrives, instead of everything competing for attention on the same day.
The sample choice also does real work. Flipping "No Scrubs" is not a random nostalgia play. It connects a widely known song to a new concept, gives writers a hook to grab, and gives listeners an immediate reference point when they hear the track for the first time. You do not need a blockbuster budget to make that kind of strategic move. You need to know your source material and have something genuine to say about it.
