Out In Front Release "Medicine" via AWAL, Join Charlotte Sands Tour

Out In Front have released "Medicine," a new single on AWAL, and announced a run of North American tour dates supporting alt-pop artist Charlotte Sands through September 2026. The song is out now with a music video co-directed by Noa Volk and the band.

"Medicine" marks Out In Front's first single under their deal with AWAL, which is distributed through Sony Music. The band is a trio: Madie Renner on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Isaiah Volk on drums, and Ryen Wagner on bass. They formed in 2024 after meeting as tennis coaches at a country club in Los Angeles.

What "Medicine" Is About and How It Was Made

Renner wrote the track in roughly three hours after forgetting her father's birthday while on tour. She describes the song as processing the guilt and disconnection that comes with being consumed by a creative pursuit.

"It came together really fast, in three hours, one of the fastest songs we've ever made," Renner said. "It poured out of me after forgetting my dad's birthday on tour and feeling so terrible. It was a reality check moment that punched me in the gut."

The song is built around a bassline that Wagner brought in after the band decided the project needed a more bass-driven track. Producer Joel Ferber worked with the trio on the session.

"We felt like we were missing a bass-driven track on the project, so we called up our bass player, Ryen, and he came in with this nostalgic, groovy riff that became the foundation of the song," Renner said. "It was one of those rare moments where everything just clicked with producer Joel Ferber."

Thematically, Renner frames the song as a call to be present. "'Medicine' is about longing for the simplicity of childhood, when life felt lighter, happiness came naturally, and the world didn't feel so heavy. It's a reminder to look up and not let life's pace steal the joy that's right in front of us."

The music video documents the realities of touring as a developing band. Co-director Noa Volk, who is also Isaiah Volk's relation based on shared last name, described the concept: "Missing home, friends moving on, and wondering if you're doing the right thing are side effects of pursuing what you're meant to do."

Out In Front Background: From DIY to AWAL

Renner studied songwriting at Belmont University in Nashville before relocating to Los Angeles. Volk played Division 1 tennis before pivoting to drums professionally. Wagner and Volk were college teammates before all three ended up at the same country club job in 2024.

The band built their early momentum entirely independently, booking support slots with Yellowcard, The All-American Rejects, Sublime, AJR, Wet Leg, Joyce Manor, and Bryce Vine before signing to AWAL. According to the release, their 2025 single "fLoAT" has surpassed 4 million streams.

"Medicine" is described as their first single under the AWAL deal.
