Sara Bareilles Releases New Single 'Still Crying,' Sets Album and North American Tour

Sara Bareilles released a new single, "Still Crying," on July 31, along with a music video directed by Kimmy Gatewood. The track is co-written with Aaron Dessner and comes from her upcoming album, Good Grief, out August 28 on Epic Records.

Bareilles described the song's subject directly: "I was trying to wrap my arms around the redundancy and the stuckness of that feeling of, 'How am I here again? Why am I still crying? I'm still in the same loop.'"

The music video features Bareilles alongside Girls5eva co-star John Lutz and other friends. Gatewood, who directed much of the third season of Girls5eva, helmed the clip.

"Still Crying" follows "Home," the album's first single released in June. According to the press release, "Home" was inspired by a conversation between Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper about grief and loss.

Good Grief is Bareilles' seventh studio album and her first since 2019's Amidst the Chaos. The 14-track set is self-produced and was recorded primarily over six days at Dreamland Recording Studios in Woodstock, NY, with contributions from Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, Andrea Gibson and others. Later sessions with Aaron Dessner took place at his Long Pond Studios in the Hudson Valley.

A documentary, Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, directed by Josh Alexander and produced by Daniel J. Chalfen, had its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in July.

Bareilles also announced the Good Grief Tour, a North American headline run promoted by Live Nation. The tour opens September 9 in Boston and runs through October 20 in Seattle, hitting theaters in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more. Three nights are booked at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on October 12, 13 and 14.
