Los Angeles duo sunandmoon released their debut single, 'In the Movies,' on August 11, 2026, with their first full project, the EP 'Tug of War,' set to follow in September 2026.
The group is made up of singer and songwriter Ogi and producer and songwriter Anoop D'Souza. Both are children of immigrants who grew up in Middle America, Ogi from a Nigerian family in Wisconsin and Anoop from an Indian family in Oklahoma. They began working together in 2024 and are releasing music through AWAL/Sony. Their management team includes Kawan 'KP' Prather, Annie Hwang, and Michael Hanano.
Ogi previously released a solo EP, 'Monologues,' with Atlantic Records in 2022, a project she made in partnership with producer No I.D. after being discovered by PJ Morton. She has since toured with Snoh Aalegra, Paramore, and Masego, and performed on the BET Awards artist spotlight stage. Anoop has production and songwriting credits with artists including Syd, Tems, and Summer Walker, among others.
According to the press release, 'In the Movies' reached close to 100,000 streams across platforms and an editorial playlist reach of 1.1 million within its first two weeks.
Grammy-nominated musician Terrace Martin offered his take on the single: 'The music that this duo makes sounds like two friends that want to spread love and give a solution to problems. From the vocals to the guitar to the drums to the bass, everything feels like water. Easy flowing and always needed.'
Billboard's Mike Saponara called it 'real soothing,' and Level Magazine publisher Jermaine Hall said the duo are 'ones to watch,' adding, 'The single is melodic, the lyrics are all too familiar.'
Ogi spoke to the creative process behind the project: 'I don't think I've ever told the truth this much in my life. But in the process that Anoop and I were in, it felt like there was room for nothing else. This project has been a lesson in the strength of vulnerability, and I'll carry that for the rest of my life.'
Anoop added: 'You can hear our friendship in the songs, a vulnerable voice wrapped and supported by the warmest production.'
For independent artists, sunandmoon is a useful case study in how a clearly defined creative identity and the right collaborators can open doors even before an EP is out.
