The Durutti Column Return With New Album 'Renascent' on London Records

The Durutti Column released Renascent, their new studio album, on July 31, 2026 via London Records. It is the Manchester outfit's first new studio album in over a decade, according to the press release.

The album features guitarist and composer Vini Reilly alongside longtime band members Bruce Mitchell and Keir Stewart. It carries a Factory Too catalogue number and was made in collaboration with Oliver Wilson, son of Factory Records founder Tony Wilson. Original Factory Records design collaborators Mark Holt and Hamish Muir of 8vo created the artwork.

Renascent runs eleven tracks on digital and CD, with the CD and digital versions including the bonus track "All They See Is Fire." The tracklist includes "Liars," "Time Present and Time Past," "Vapour in a Matchbox," and the new single "Sargasso Sea," which features Manchester vocalist and pianist Caoilfhionn Rose.

Rose describes how the collaboration came together: "I remember when I first heard a version of 'Sargasso Sea' being recorded for The Durutti Column's Chronicle LX: XL album. I was really struck by it, especially the vivid and reflective lyrics. Several years later I reimagined the song and was invited to record it in a session for Renascent. Vini, Keir and Bruce are all wonderful people and musicians and I've always been really inspired by their approach to making music. Over the years they've been so positive about my singing and encouraged me to improvise and experiment, trusting the creative process. They've been like mentors to me and have been very influential in the way I make music."

Reilly describes the album's creative process plainly: "Every single piece of music writes itself."

To mark the release, The Durutti Column will partner with In Sheep's Clothing for vinyl listening sessions on August 13 in both New York (at Head Hi) and Los Angeles (at In Sheep's Clothing HQ). Both events will include Renascent alongside The Return of The Durutti Column (1980) and Vini Reilly (1989) played on hi-fi systems. Attendees can pick up a limited 10-track CD sampler and purchase the album on-site.

For independent artists, Reilly's approach here is worth noting: five decades of work built on improvisation, collaboration with trusted peers, and a design identity that dates back to the beginning. Renascent is available now on digital, CD, cassette, and multiple vinyl configurations including a limited boxed edition of 1,000 copies worldwide.
