Tyla has released a new music video for "That Girl," a single from her sophomore album A\POP*, out now on Epic Records. The video is directed by Aerin Moreno and shot in Los Angeles, marking a shift from the animated aesthetic of the song's first visual into live-action territory. It premiered during Tyla's A\*POP World Tour stop at O2 Academy Brixton in London on October 16.

The video centers on choreography handled by Litchi HOV, who has worked with Tyla previously. The setup places Tyla and her dance troupe in a parking lot styled as what the release describes as an "A\*POP oasis," with a deliberately lo-fi visual approach that connects back to the neon aesthetic Tyla used for the album's tracklist reveal.

What Is on the "That Girl" Video and Who Made It

Director Aerin Moreno brings the visual into a real-world setting after the song's original video used animation. Choreographer Litchi HOV, a returning collaborator, handles the movement, which according to the release draws on a car scene that also got attention when Tyla previewed some of the choreography live on The Today Show's Citi Summerstage concert series. That performance has passed one million views on YouTube, according to the release.

"That Girl" is a single from A\POP*, Tyla's second studio album. The album's lead single "Chanel" has surpassed 150 million video views, according to the release. An earlier Tyla collaboration with Zara Larsson, "She Did It Again," is also part of the A\POP* campaign, along with "Is It Love?"

Tyla won her first Grammy Award in 2024. Her debut single "Water" reached triple platinum certification from the RIAA, according to the release, and her debut album campaign sent seven songs to the U.S. Afrobeats chart. The release states she became the highest-charting African female soloist on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, and that "Is It Love?" earned her a fourth number one on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats chart.

She also holds a second Grammy, according to the bio included in the release, for "Push 2 Start," another track from her debut era.

Ahead of A\POP*'s release, Tyla partnered with MGA Entertainment on a line of Bratz and O.M.G. dolls tied to her likeness.

What Independent Artists Can Take from This Campaign

Tyla's visual rollout for "That Girl" is a textbook example of layering a release. The song had one video, then a second video in a different format, each giving press and fans a new reason to cover and share the same song. The second video premiered as a live event moment, not just a YouTube drop, which generated a news hook separate from the release itself. If you are building toward your own release, even at a smaller scale, [submit your project to Pass the Aux](/pass-the-aux) and think about how each asset in your campaign can create its own moment rather than all landing at once.
