Willow Avalon Covers "You're So Vain" for Spotify Singles

Willow Avalon has released a cover of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" as part of the Spotify Singles series, performed with an all-female band. The recording arrives shortly after Avalon put out her sophomore album, Pink Pocket Pistol, last month on Atlantic Outpost / Assemble Sound.

The Spotify Singles program commissions artists to record an original track and a cover specifically for the platform. Avalon's take on the 1972 Simon classic is available to stream on Spotify now.

What Is on Pink Pocket Pistol and Who Collaborated With Willow Avalon

Pink Pocket Pistol spans fourteen tracks and includes three notable collaborations. Kaitlin Butts appears on "Hypothetically Speaking," Midland joins Avalon on "Hickest Woman," and Jason Isbell is featured on "Cardinal Sin." Billboard noted of the Isbell pairing that "Avalon has already established herself as a top-shelf vocal stylist and keen songwriter" and called the collaboration "a natural alignment." Whiskey Riff credited Avalon's "pure, twangy voice, with its noticeable bleat" for making "Cardinal Sin" a highlight of the record.

The album received coverage and best new music recognition from NPR Music, Whiskey Riff, Holler, Ones To Watch, and JamBase, among others. Country Swag wrote that "in fourteen tracks, Avalon manages to tell stories, evoke emotions, and have everyone listening intently," while Country Central pointed to her range across "achy ballads" and "chamber-spinning murder tunes."

Pink Pocket Pistol is Avalon's follow-up to her January 2025 debut, Southern Belle Raisin' Hell, which introduced her as a Nashville-based artist originally from Georgia. She grew up playing piano in church and taught herself guitar at 12. Her debut led to TV appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and CBS Mornings, festival slots at Stagecoach, C2C, CMA Fest, and Lollapalooza, and a first performance on the Grand Ole Opry stage. She is part of the 2026 Opry NextStage class, a program that spotlights artists the Opry has identified for development.

Previous touring credits include shared stages with Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Zach Bryan, Cage the Elephant, Paul Cauthen, and Charles Wesley Godwin. In May she opened for Marcus King.

What Independent Artists Can Take From This Campaign

The sequencing here is worth paying attention to. Avalon dropped the album, let reviews land, then released the Spotify Singles cover to keep the album in conversation without putting out another original. A cover of a recognizable song pulls in search traffic from people who are not yet fans but know the source material, and the all-female band angle gives press a secondary hook to write around. None of that requires a major label budget. It requires planning the rollout before the album comes out, not after.
