Jeremy Hecht has hosted the Something Dope Open Mic since 2022, hundreds of nights of it. He works the line with a microphone before the doors open, and whoever is standing at the front is guaranteed the stage. Artists have waited nineteen hours to hold that spot.
The story
Jeremy Hecht picked up the microphone at Something Dope in 2022 and changed what the night could be. By that summer he was hosting every Wednesday at Los Globos, setting the intentions for the room and carrying the energy from the first name called to the last. The captions have returned to the same idea ever since: a host who gives everything he has on stage, every single time.
His work starts long before the doors open. While the line is still forming outside he walks it with a microphone, talking to artists and handing out spots. In July 2022 he gave the opening performance to the very last person in line, then the following week to someone who had arrived nearly two hours early. He runs guessing games for extra raffle tickets and treats the wait as part of the night rather than something to get through. Those line interviews grew into their own body of work, and the clips have gathered hundreds of millions of views.
In March 2023 he became one of two hosts, with Maiwand, of the Something Dope radio show on Dash Radio, created so independent artists could get featured. That December he released a song about what love means across cultures and across time, his first release in six years, and sent the community a message thanking them for embracing him.
The work traveled. In January 2024 the team was in Oklahoma City with Jeremy hosting, and the caption laid out his background: hosting at HipHopDX and Something Dope, previously the host at Before They Were Famous, and before that an assistant at Power 106. That April he hosted a Charlotte open mic at Crown Station. In October he was one of four hosts at the five year anniversary inside Create Music's new studios.
By 2025 he was described as a fast rising personality and podcaster whose weekly show The Bigger Picture, with Elliott Wilson and DJ Hed, ran on HipHopDX. He hosted a Chicago open mic at Promontory in partnership with Red Bull, sat in the studio giving artists feedback, and offered video coverage as a King of the Aux prize in Oklahoma City. A performer showed up nearly two hours early to wait in line, arriving before the venue even opened. Jeremy decided that effort earned him the slot to open up the night. After a July 2022 open mic, the brand posted a clip of Jeremy speaking with performers as they waited in line. That is where he met flowsnice, who the caption said was confident from the line to the stage.
