2026 Latin Grammy Nominations: Edgar Barrera Leads with 10 Nods

The Latin Recording Academy dropped the full nominations list for the 2026 Latin Grammy Awards on Wednesday, September 16, and Edgar Barrera is running away with the field. The Mexican songwriter and producer picked up 10 nominations, the most of anyone in this cycle, spanning record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, and best regional song, largely on the strength of his work with Karol G and Carín León.

Barrera has now accumulated 82 career nominations and 29 wins. He is already in the conversation for songwriter and producer of the year, categories he has won before. At this point, his name on a project functions as a nomination accelerant.

Who Is in the Running for the Top Latin Grammy Awards

CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Jorge Drexler, Karol G, and Rosalía each received seven nominations. Silvana Estrada and Mon Laferte follow with six apiece. Every one of those artists is competing for album of the year, a category that also includes Anitta, Carín León, Milo J, and Rawayana.

Rosalía's LUX (Complete Works) is pulling nominations across pop, alternative, Portuguese language, and album of the year, reflecting just how deliberately cross-genre that project was built. Her record "La Perla," featuring Yahritza y Su Esencia, is also in the record of the year and song of the year fields.

The album of the year list alone covers seven countries: Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. Latin Recording Academy CEO Manuel Abud called it out directly, noting the category is split evenly between men and women and represents a breadth of genre and geography that is unusual even by Latin Grammy standards.

One of the more surprising names in the general field is Milo J, a 19-year-old Argentine singer and rapper whose folk album La Vida Era Más Corta landed nominations in all three major categories. That kind of multi-category presence from a teenager with a folk record is not something you see often, and it says something about how that album landed.

At the other end of the spectrum, Cuban legend Omara Portuondo earned a nomination for best traditional tropical album at 95 years old.

What the Full 2026 Latin Grammy Nominations Tell Us About the Field

Beyond the top-line names, there are a few things worth tracking. Arath Herce pulled four nominations and is also in the running for best new artist. BRUSES, Feid, Héctor Mazzarri, Jennifer Mosello, and Eden Muñoz each received three nominations. Artists including Rauw Alejandro, Anitta, Bad Gyal, Bizarrap, Daddy Yankee, Juanes, and Carín León all received two nods.

The best new artist category is its own conversation. The nominees are Delilah, Fabian, Loulu Gilberto, Arath Herce, Macario Martínez, Maye, Sofia Monroy, Kendall Peña, Dora Sanches, Aria Vega, and Zeca Veloso. That is a wide-open field with no obvious front-runner, which makes it one of the more interesting categories to watch heading into November.

Abud flagged a few other genre-crossing moments in the nominations: Karol G competing in a Mexican music category, flamenco artist Niña Pastori nominated in tropical, and Nathy Peluso in salsa. That kind of movement across genre lines is either a sign of how fluid Latin music is right now, or a sign of how broadly these artists are operating. Probably both.

The 27th annual Latin Grammy Awards air live from Las Vegas on Thursday, November 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on TelevisaUnivision platforms. A non-televised premiere ceremony will announce most winners earlier that day. Eligibility covered recordings released between June 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026.

For working producers, songwriters, and independent artists in the Latin music space, the Barrera story is the one to study. Ten nominations built across collaborative work on major projects, across multiple genre categories, is a model for how a behind-the-scenes career compounds at the highest level.
