Tyla has announced the That Girl Music Scholarship, a $5,000 award tied to her second studio album A\POP* and the ongoing A\*POP World Tour. The scholarship will go to 10 female undergraduate students pursuing music and arts-related degrees at colleges and universities near select tour stops in the United States and South Africa.
The program is a partnership between Sony Music and the International Institute for Education (IIE). Recipients are selected based on both financial need and academic achievement, and historically Black colleges and universities receive priority consideration.
Who Is Eligible for the Tyla That Girl Music Scholarship
To apply, students must be enrolled full-time as undergraduates at the time of the local concert date in their market. Required materials include a one-page personal statement, a 30-second video, a school transcript, and proof of financial need. Applications are tied to specific scholarship markets along the tour route.
U.S. scholarship markets are New York City, Washington D.C., Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles, with one recipient chosen per city. Four additional recipients will be selected from Tyla's home country of South Africa. All 10 recipients will receive concert tickets and a meet-and-greet with Tyla at their local tour stop.
The scholarship takes its name from "That Girl," a single on A\POP*. More details and the application link are available through Tyla's official channels.

About Tyla and the Album A\*POP
Tyla is a South African artist signed to Epic Records. She holds two GRAMMY Awards, the first of which she won in 2024 for her debut era built around the triple-platinum single "WATER," which made her the highest-charting African female soloist on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, according to the release. Her debut album TYLA and deluxe edition TYLA+ sent seven songs to the U.S. Afrobeats chart, including two number ones. "PUSH 2 START" was a second GRAMMY-winning hit from that campaign.
A\POP* is her second studio album, released in July 2026 on Epic Records. According to the release, it debuted at number one on the Billboard World Albums chart. The album's lead single "CHANEL" topped the U.S. Afrobeats chart and has earned over 150 million video views, according to the release. The follow-up single "SHE DID IT AGAIN" features Zara Larsson. A third single, "IS IT," reached number one on the U.S. Afrobeats chart, giving Tyla four total chart-toppers on that chart, according to the release. Pitchfork described her as a "sexy, infectious, fun new voice" in pop. A\POP* is available now on all major streaming platforms.
The scholarship is one of the more concrete artist-to-fan pipeline programs tied to a major label album cycle in recent memory. For an independent artist watching this campaign, the takeaway is structural: Tyla did not just announce a tour and a record. She built a third asset, a scholarship with a clear application process, a named partner in IIE, a defined eligibility pool, and a meet-and-greet reward that creates earned media at every stop. You do not need a major label budget to design something similar at a local level. A scholarship or mentorship tied to your release, even at a smaller dollar amount, gives music journalists and community outlets a reason to cover you beyond the music itself. If you are an independent artist building that kind of campaign, [submit your story to Something Dope for the People](/submit) so we can help get it in front of the right people.
