Fuerza Regida is getting their flowers. Billboard and Telemundo announced that the San Bernardino group will receive the Billboard Vanguard Award at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, set to broadcast live October 22 at 8 p.m. ET on Telemundo and Peacock from the James L. Knight Center in Miami.

The Vanguard Award recognizes artists who push past conventional boundaries and redefine what a genre can be. For Fuerza Regida, the case writes itself.

What Fuerza Regida Has Actually Built

Formed in 2015 by vocalist and leader Jesus Ortiz Paz (JOP) alongside Jose "Pelon" Garcia, Moises Lopez, Khrystian Ramos, and Samuel Jaimez, the group turned their bicultural identity into a blueprint for modern musica mexicana. They did not water down the roots. They expanded them.

The numbers back it up: 46 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 35 billion career streams, and 16 entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Their collaboration with Shakira on "El Jefe" and the Oscar Maydon track "Tu Boda" reached No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs and No. 4 on the Billboard Global 200. Those are not regional numbers. That is a global audience.

In 2025, their ninth studio album, 111XPANTIA, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting Spanish-language album by a duo or group in the all-genre chart's history. It then climbed to No. 1 on Top Latin Albums the following week.

JOP put it plainly in a statement: "We've always done things our own way. We come from San Bernardino, we know who we are and where we come from, and we've never been afraid to take our music somewhere people might not expect it to go."

Why This Moment Is Bigger Than an Award

The award ceremony is only part of the story. Before the show, Fuerza Regida will sit for a Superstar Q&A at Billboard Latin Music Week on October 20 and headline the Billboard En Vivo showcase that same night in Miami Beach. The full Latin Music Week runs October 19 through 22 and also features Maluma, Pitbull, Karol G, Peso Pluma, and a long list of heavyweights.

Fuerza Regida arrives at this moment with serious stage credibility behind them. They became the first regional Mexican group to perform at Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw. They sold out Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl in the same weekend. They set a record as the highest-selling Latin act in the history of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. JOP attended KidSuper's Paris Fashion Week runway show from the front row, signaling that the group's reach now extends well into fashion and broader creative culture.

In 2026, they are launching the first-ever U.S. stadium tour by a regional Mexican group. That is a milestone that goes beyond one genre. It marks a structural shift in who can headline stadium-scale events in this country.

This year they are also finalists for 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards, behind only Peso Pluma (17) and Tito Double P (15) in total nominations. They will perform during the October 22 ceremony as well.

For independent artists and creators watching this, the Fuerza Regida arc is worth studying closely. They built a lane that did not exist, stayed rooted in their community and identity, and scaled that into a global platform without compromising the core. That is a repeatable model, not a lucky exception.

Tickets to the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards are available now on Ticketmaster. The ceremony airs October 22 on Telemundo, Peacock, the Telemundo app, and Telemundo Internacional across Latin America and the Caribbean. If you are in the LA creative scene and tracking where Latin music is headed, this is the room to watch.
