The 11th annual Hinterland Music Festival wrapped up Sunday, August 3, in Saint Charles, Iowa, closing out four days of music at the independently owned outdoor festival held just outside Des Moines.

Headlining sets came from KATSEYE, Lorde, Mumford & Sons, and Kali Uchis. According to the release, KATSEYE opened the weekend on Thursday in what the festival is calling the group's first-ever festival headlining performance.

The 2026 lineup spanned pop, indie, rock, R&B, Latin music, folk, and alternative. Beyond the stages, the festival featured its HinterMarket of regional artists and makers, art installations, interactive experiences, and outdoor activities across the grounds.

Hinterland has been running since its inaugural edition in 2015. Past lineups have included Chappell Roan, Zach Bryan, Leon Bridges, Bon Iver, Brandi Carlile, Hozier, and Noah Kahan, among others.

The festival describes itself as independently owned, which is worth noting for artists thinking about what kinds of events to pitch for placement. Independent festivals with long track records can be more accessible entry points than corporate-run tours, especially for emerging acts on the rise.

Hinterland 2027 dates are officially announced: July 30 through August 1, 2027, again in Saint Charles. Fans can sign up for early access to tickets at guaranteed lowest pricing at hinterlandiowa.com.

No 2027 lineup has been announced yet.
