North West officially stepped out as a solo artist this week. On May 1, she released her debut six-track EP, N0rth4evr — described as a mashup of metal guitar, autotune, and punk-inflected rap — and marked the moment with a pop-up at Complex LA's Fairfax location.

Kanye West showed up as a surprise guest, signing merch and taking photos alongside his daughter. Bianca Censori was also in attendance. On sale at the event were vinyl pressings of the EP and limited edition merchandise, with the experience rounded out by immersive visuals and an ice cream stand.

What's Next for North

North is already building out a live footprint. She joined her father on stage at his SoFi Stadium dates last month, and she's booked for a solo set at Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in June at SeatGeek Stadium in Illinois — likely her first full solo performance pulling from the new project.

For independent artists watching this: the pop-up format North and her team used here is a proven playbook for release week — physical product, limited merch, an in-person experience, and a genuine moment for fans to connect with the artist. You don't need Kanye West to walk through the door for it to work. You need a reason for people to show up.
